Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office release:

On 07-08-2013, at approximately 6:15 p.m., the Humboldt Sheriff’s Office Deputies investigated an attempted murder in 1200 block of Red Cap Road, Orleans. Two victims, a 33 year old male and a 32 year old male reported that they heard an argument between two males on Red Cap Road, near their residence. When the victims inquired about the argument, words were exchanged with the two men who were arguing and the two victims. The men who were initially arguing left the area, however one of them, later identified as Richard Vaughn Myers, 22 years old from Orleans, returned a short time later with a shotgun and fired a shot. One of the victims retrieved a rifle from his home to defend himself and Myers fired an additional shot from the shotgun with one of the pellets striking the 33 year old male on the neck, causing a minor injury.

On 10-28-2013, at approximately 4:00 p.m., Myers was seen by one of the investigating deputies walking out of a store in Weitchpec. The deputy arrested Myers for the shooting on July 8, 2013.

Myers was booked on attempted murder. His bail is set at $600,000.00.
