When all the votes were finally tallied, we learned that only 37.8 percent of registered Humboldt County voters bothered to cast a ballot in the June 3 election.

You’re going to say — hey, that’s better than the statewide average of 25.2 percent! Right?!? Wrong. Just because Humboldt is a half again less horrible than the state at large doesn’t mean it isn’t still horrible.

Let’s hand out merits and demerits. Below is a map of which places Humboldt County precincts bothered to show out to vote, using the traditional scale — blue equals cold, red equals hot. Boo, Hoopa! Boo, Arcata! Hooray, Kneeland! Hooray, Myrtletown!
