According to the dispatch for the Arcata Fire Protection District, there is a residential fire near Weirup Lane and Hideaway Street off of Sutter Road in McKinleyville.  

Scanner traffic indicates that that multiple engines are returning to their home areas. LoCO will be monitoring the situation and updating as appropriate.

UPDATE 2:14 p.m.: According to dispatch, the situation is under control but she needs to gather information from the firefighters still on scene. LoCo will update when details come in.

UPDATE 4:45 p.m.: According to Fire Chief Desmond Cowan of the Arcata Fire Protection District, when firefighters arrived on scene, it appeared there was a fire in the attic so they cut a couple of large holes in the roof. They were quickly able to get the situation under control. There was a large amount of smoke damage throughout the house. Apparently, a plastic drop cloth caught fire in the vicinity of the heater.  

There were no injuries. Humboldt Bay Fire responded to assist crews from the Arcata Fire District.
