For 119 years NOAA has been gathering weather data across our fair nation and by golly California’s most recent winter was the warmest of all 119 of ‘em. It wasn’t just you. It’s been a hot one.
California temperatures compiled from December through February (which we’re calling “winter”) were 4.4°F above the 20th century average. As evidenced in the map below, the southwest US was something of an outlier — while we baked, much of the midwest endured the scarily named “Polar Vortex.” (The number assigned to each state ranks its winter historically against previous years.)
Sunny California indeed. Dig into the numbers more if you so choose on NOAA’s website.
