Today, the Redwood Coast Energy Authority’s Matthew Marshall stopped by KHUM to talk about your chance to compare and contrast electric vehicles (EV). He also brought Dave Carter of GHD Engineering, who recently opened Eureka’s newest EV charging station.
Tomorrow from 11 am to 1pm, you can cruise the race track at Redwood Acres in available EVs. Staff will be on hand to discuss state and federal subsidies for EV buyers.
Marshall said curious drivers would be able to drive the Nissan Leaf, the Chevy Volt, the plug-in Prius, and the Ford C-Max.
He also noted that early EV adopters have already outpaced early hybrid buyers, signaling clear consumer demand.
The new charging station outside GHD powers the company electric car. Carter said the purchase “fit with our sustainability policy and the car seemed like a good fit for local errands and business travel. It has worked out great so far. People love it.”

If you’re still concerned an EV will replace your gas bill with a PG+E bill, check out the US Department Of Energy’s eGallon calculator. And here’s even more information about that.
And of course, if you have solar panels on your roof, your car would drink sunlight. So that’d be nice.
Finally, in the “so crazy it just might [not] work” column - KHUM took you inside the moving EV to drive around and find out if a Nissan Leaf has pickup or the ability to attract women.
