Eureka Police Department press release:

On 10/08/14 at approximately 11:59 p.m. the Eureka Police Department arrived on scene of a vehicle versus pedestrian traffic collision at the intersection of Broadway and West Henderson Streets. 

The initial investigation revealed Russell Busch, 41 of Eureka was riding a skateboard west on West Henderson approaching Broadway (down the steep hill). Busch was unable to stop before entering the intersection. Sedgewick Neily, 38 of Eureka was driving an Infinity SUV south on Broadway in the right lane. Neily had just pulled away from the limit line with a green light when Busch collided with the left front corner of the vehicle. Neily tried to avoid the collision but was unable to do so. 

Busch suffered major head injuries and was transported to St. Joseph Hospital by ambulance. He was not wearing a helmet and had dark clothing on at the time of the collision. Driver impairment is not a factor in this collision.
