From the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:

On 09-30-2014, at approximately 1:00 a.m., the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office received a  911 call regarding a possible burglary in progress on Linda Way, McKinleyville. The reporting party was a relative of the homeowner who lived nearby and knew the homeowner was out of town. The reporting party said he walked to the residence and saw a broken window. When the caller confronted the suspect, later identified as Robert Kaimana-Riden Kirkhill, 19 years old, he told the caller there was, “Lots of dead people in the home and he needed to check on them”. 

When deputies arrived at the residence, Kirkhill immediately fled to the rear of the home and out into the backyard. One of the deputies ordered Kirkhill to stop. Instead of stopping, Kirkhill aggressively ran towards the deputy yelling unintelligible statements. The deputy told Kirkhill to lay on the ground, but he refused. When the deputy attempted to detain Kirkhill, he immediately began fighting with the deputy. The deputy and Kirkhill fell to the ground with the deputy on top of Kirkhill. Kirkhill began punching the deputy in the face and neck several times. He kicked at the deputy and attempted to gouge the deputies eyes out with his fingers. He bit the deputy on the arm, breaking the skin and spit repeatedly into the deputies’ face while the deputy continued attempts to subdue him.

Additional deputies arrived to assist the first deputy and attempted to use a Taser on Kirkhill, which had no effect. Three deputies were finally able to overpower Kirkhill and arrest him. Kirkhill was transported to a local hospital where he was medically cleared and then transported to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Correctional Facility. He was booked on charges of assaulting an executive officer, trespassing and damaging property and burglary. His bail was set at $200,000.00.

The deputy was treated and released from a local hospital for the injuries he received during the arrest.
