UPDATE, 2:16 p.m.: The California Highway Patrol has sent the following asking for the public’s assistance:
On Sept. 7, 2014, at approximately 1140 hours, a female pedestrian On Fickle Hill Road, east of the Arcata city limits, was struck by an unknown vehicle. Personnel from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) - Humboldt Area and the Arcata Police Department responded to the scene, along with fire and ambulance personnel. The pedestrian, identified as Reshawn Lindsey O’Kelly, age 38, sustained major injuries as a result of the collision, and was transported to Mad River Hospital by ambulance. The CHP, the agency in charge of the investigation, is seeking information from anyone who may have information regarding the involved vehicle, the involved vehicle occupant(s), or the circumstances of the collision. Original Post: LoCO has received calls and emails today regarding a suspected hit and run collision that badly injured a woman up Fickle Hill Road in Arcata. LoCO‘s CHP Watch as well as scanner traffic confirm the incident. Listen to edited scanner traffic audio below which begins at approximately 11:42 a.m.:

The woman was transported by ambulance to the hospital. No description of the vehicle was provided by the victim but, as discussed in the audio above, a piece of the undercarriage of the car broke off during the accident.
Arcata resident Christina DeGiovanni arrived at the scene shortly after the incident, called 911 and later provided this account on Facebook.
