From Humboldt Bay Fire:

At 1:20 A.M. this morning a single engine from Humboldt Bay Fire was dispatched to an investigation of a fire that had reportedly been extinguished on the 5800 Block of Walnut Drive. Upon arrival the Captain of the unit found smoke and fire coming from the roof and wall of a detached shed. A full structure response was initiated. The crew immediately attacked the fire and was able to control it within a matter of minutes, preventing the fire from spreading to a nearby residence. The additional responding units were canceled and returned. A fire investigator and Chief Officer responded to the scene to determine the cause of the fire. There were no injuries and the loss was estimated to be approximately $500.

Through the information and evidence gathered from witnesses during the investigation, it was determined that the fire was caused by the use of illegal fireworks near the structure.

Although no criminal intent was found, this should serve as a reminder to the danger of illegal fireworks. Due to drought conditions, ANY fireworks or ignition sources pose a risk of fire.
