Diane Alley left this world to be with the Lord on December 9, 2015.

She was born in Fortuna on July 17, 1937 to Wilma and Otto Holman. She was a 1955 Eureka High School graduate and went on to work at the Pacific Telephone Company. She married the love of her life, Richard Alley, in 1957 and began, as she said so many times, “Those were the most wonderful days of our lives, raising you three girls.” She nurtured and cared for all of them with continual sparks of laughter, fun, enthusiasm and strength – shaping and molding her three girls to be the confident women they are today.

She loved to travel and would spontaneously wake up Richard early in the morning, pack up their three girls, and take off for a fun-filled adventure throughout the United States. After their daughters were all married, she and Richard spent many years traveling in their travel trailer to different locations throughout California for Richard’s work as a construction millwright. Those were wonderful and memorable times for the two of them.

Holidays and birthdays were always a special time for her and her family. She loved entertaining with elegance, adorning her table with beautiful china and leaving this legacy to her three daughters. Her love for beautiful dishes encouraged her to create beautiful-ceramic pieces with her daughter, Cindy, which was a very special time for the two of them.

Diane loved crafting and was very good at crocheting. When she wasn’t crafting and taking care of her home, she lovingly spent endless Sundays frying chicken and making macaroni salads to prepare for her family’s Sunday picnic, as her daughters always brought along their best friends, Jody, Lisa and Angie, whom Diane loved like her own. After many great times at their summer-vacation property in Myers Flat, they made their second home in Willow Creek, where they made many wonderful memories also. They would travel with their precious pet birds, Pattie and Blondie, going back and forth from Eureka to Willow Creek. Diane loved to garden and was very proud of her beautiful rose garden.

Diane belonged to Tops, Eureka Bowling League, Eureka Women’s Club, Christian Women’s Club and Xi Beta Pi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She had a very special place in her heart for all her sorority sisters in Xi Beta Pi.

Diane enjoyed and was very proud of her time as a Humboldt County Grand Jury Member, as she was always very up-to-date on current affairs. In addition, Diane was a great American and patriot, always abiding by the law and acknowledging our servicemen and women. She always honored and paid tribute to our American Veterans.

Diane was very well-read, reading everything from the daily newspaper to her bible. Diane’s bible-reading time started when she truly committed herself to Christ at the First Covenant Bible Study program on Tuesday mornings. As of late, she and Richard became members of The Shepherd’s Chapel, which she attributed a closer and deeper walk with the Lord.

She is survived by her loving husband of sixty years, Richard Alley and their three daughters and spouses: Cindy (Daniel) Hicks, Barbara (Douglas) Hooper and Christine (Scott) Williams; her seven grandchildren and their spouses: Haley Hicks, Clayton (Rachelle) Hicks, Kyle (Kelly) Hooper, Clinton (Rose) Hooper, Kendra (Ryan) Shepherd and Nolan and Alley Williams; her seven great-grandchildren, whom she loved to be referred to as “GG”: Bowdy, Carson and Crew Hicks; Paige Hooper; Gracelynn, Kenadee and Aimzlee Shepherd. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews: Jerry Alley, Wade Holman and Amy Holman and their children and grandchildren.
