From the Fortuna Police Department:

On December 20, 2015 at approximately 8:05 pm, officers with the Fortuna Police Department responded to a report of a burglary in progress at Miracle’s Salon located in the 400 block of North Fortuna Blvd. Upon arrival, officers determined that the suspects had fled out a rear door prior to arrival. Officers processed the scene for evidence and during the course of the investigation noticed that a shoe had been left behind holding open the back door to the business.

On December 21, 2016 at approximately 4:00 am, an officer with the Fortuna Police Department was on patrol and contacted Therese Smith (age 55) of Fortuna in the 700 block of S. Fortuna Blvd. During the contact with Smith, the officer noticed she was wearing mismatched shoes and one of the shoes matched the shoe located at the earlier reported burglary. Upon additional investigation it was determined that Smith wearing items stolen from the business.

Smith was taken into custody and transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where she was booked for 459 PC (Burglary) and 1203.2 PC (Probation Violation).
