A little after 1 p.m., the Fortuna Volunteer Fire epartment was called to the scene of a pickup on fire at the Kenmar Boulevard offramp. The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office and the California Highway Patrol showed up as well.

Fortuna Fire Chief Lon Winburn tells the Outpost’s Andrew Goff, who was at the scene, said that the truck was “fully engaged” when his fire trucks got to the scene. There had been some report that explosions were heard coming from the pickup, but Winburn did not comment on that.

No one was with the pickup when the fire department got there. A few moments ago, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office found that the pickup’s license plates had been stolen off of a junked vehicle in a third party’s yard.
