Gary Michael Wilson passed away suddenly on Feb. 15, 2015 in the Philippines at the age of 75.
Gary was born in Spencer, Iowa on November 16, 1939. He grew up in Spencer and after graduating from high school joined the U.S. Navy. While stationed at the Naval Base in Centerville, Calif., he met Linda Shanahan. They were married, returned to Iowa and had three children. They returned to live in Eureka, California for a brief time and Gary worked at White House Finance.
Gary is survived by his wife, Caroline Aquino Wilson of the Philippines and her son, Geo Aquino of New York; his former wife, Linda Shanahan DeLong, and their three children: Susan and her husband Steve Thrap, Mike Wilson (aka Gary Michael Wilson, Jr.) all of Eureka; Stacy and her husband Steve Giacomini of Sacramento; and his grandchildren, Tyler, Travis, Logan and Lane Thrap; Chandler and Courtney Wilson; and Nolan and Sierra Giacomini. He is also survived by his brother, Carl and his wife Kristi Wilson and their children Ashley and Dylan of Lincoln, Nebraska as well as numerous cousins.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Ardell Wilson, his infant sister Connie, and his brother Dennis Wilson.
Memorial contributions may be made on his behalf to St. Bernard Catholic School Athletic Program at 222 Dollison, Eureka, CA 95501.
Dad/Grandpa will be missed by all of us, but we are thankful he did not suffer and that we were able to spend some great quality time with him at Thanksgiving and celebrated his 75th birthday together before his adventure to enjoy the rest of his retirement years in the Philippines.
