Sometimes no news is good news!

Arcata Police Department press release:

The City of Arcata and specifically the Down Town Business District, have seen a significant number of bicycle thefts. In an attempt to proactively combat this on going problem, on 01/29/2015 the Arcata Police Department conducted a “Bicycle Sting” operation in the downtown Area. A bicycle was left unsecured in an identified high crime location. Officers then conducted surveillance on the bicycle. 

We are happy to report that no one took the bait bicycle and we would like to thank Pacific Outfitter’s for their support of the local community by allowing officers to use a bicycle from their store for the duration of the sting. 

The Arcata Police Department will continue to conduct this type of operation in the future in an attempt to deter the theft of personal property from the residents of Arcata.
