It looks like you get more carnival, Eureka.

Before it’s scheduled stop next week in Rohner Park for Fortuna’s Rodeo Week, this here carnival is just gonna go ahead set up shop in the parking lot of the now-closed Ray’s Food Place adjacent the Bayshore Mall in Eureka. It opens Wednesday at noon and continues through Sunday.

On our commute home Tuesday evening and after noticing the giant Ferris wheel near the Broadway McDonald’s, LoCO‘s vehicle was caught in the carnival’s neon rainbow tractor beam. That’s how they get you! So, while the carny crew made finishing touches to their seductive midway, we snapped some shots and remembered unfortunate attempts at combining Zipper rides with curly fries in youth. Don’t.

One of the carnival workers drew our attention to a black ribbon tied across the door on one of the Ferris wheel’s buckets. He told us it is carny tradition to close one bucket when a member of the crew dies, as was the case the day before this particular setup.
