From the Arcata Fire District:

Arcata Fire District responded to a residential structure fire in the 1200 block of Cedar Drive. The initial report from the first arriving engine on scene stated moderate to heavy grey/white smoke coming from the rear of a single wide mobile home with flames visible.

The first engine crew laid in a dry line from the hydrant and assumed fire attack. The second engine crew activated the hydrant and was assigned rapid intervention crew (RIC). The third engine crew was assigned exterior operations. During the primary search of the structure’s interior it was confirmed the building was empty. After approximately 15 minutes the fire was knocked down and under control. “Even though we were able to control the fire in a short period of time, the excessive amount of stuff collected inside the structure and outside of the structure added to the fuel load of the fire making it very dangerous and difficult for the fire crews.” stated Assistant Chief Justin McDonald. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Arcata Fire District responded with three engines, eight career fire fighters, two volunteer fire fighters and two chief officers. Blue Lake Fire Department responded with one engine and a chief officer. Humboldt Bay Fire responded with one engine and a chief officer to provide coverage in the Fire District. Arcata Police Department responded and will be assisting with the investigation. Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) responded to secure utilities, and Red Cross was also called to the scene to assist with logistics.
