From the California Highway Patrol:

On March 11, 2015 at approximately 3:10 P.M., Richard Hamilton was driving a 1999 Peterbilt tractor towing a 1997 Raven flatbed trailer loaded with pallets of potting soil. The tractor/trailer combination was traveling on US-101 northbound, south of Kane Road, approaching a left curve in the roadway.  Hamilton failed to safely negotiate the curve and the vehicle overturned coming to rest blocking the northbound lane of US-101.

The vehicles’ load of potting soil was thrown from the vehicle coming to rest in the roadway as well along the embankment east of US-101.  Hamilton was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision and suffered minor injuries.

Personnel from the California Highway Patrol and Caltrans responded to the scene.   Due to the position of the overturned vehicles and proximity to Big Lagoon, the fuel tanks from the Peterbilt were off-loaded prior to the vehicle being recovered.  As a result of this collision and towing/recovery operations, US-101 at this location was subject to one way traffic control for approximately 7.5 hours.
