Chief Andy Mills, Blogger, got the scoop early this morning, but the Eureka Police Department today released some crime statistics for the first quarter of 2015. Mixed bag, all told — property crime up, residential burglaries down, violent crime kinda down, total crime down a little bit from the previous quarter’s big high….

The Tuluwat Examiner — Mills’ fellow blogger and arch-nemesis, the Joker to his Batman and/or vice versa — believes that there is something deeply suspicious about it all!

From the Eureka Police Department:

In the first quarter of 2015, Eureka recorded 25 violent crime reports, compared to 40 during the same time period of 2014 — a decrease of 37.5%.  Property crime increased 22% during the same time comparison.

March 2015 had the lowest number of residential burglaries since January 2013, with 10 reports. While residential burglaries were down, other property crimes continue to rise. March 2015 had the highest number of larceny reports taken since January 2013, at 183 reports.

The Eureka Police Department hopes that sharing this information will drive a greater awareness of crime and demonstrate our desire to work with the community.  We encourage residents to join a Neighborhood Watch and help communicate crime trends in their area.

The attached graphs show total crime reports, violent crime reports, residential burglary reports, and crime totals by quarter.
