UPDATE, 5:31 p.m.: This afternoon, the Outpost received a call from Teresa Dutton who told us that her mom, Donna Dutton of Eureka, was the woman injured in today’s crash. Teresa told us Donna sustained five broken ribs and a ruptured artery when her van flipped and that they were waiting for CT scan results to see if her pelvis was fractured.
Donna is scheduled for emergency surgery but Teresa was upbeat about her condition. “She’s most likely going to be OK,” Teresa said. UPDATE, 12/1: Teresa called us to say the latest report from the doctors in that her mom has a broken back.

Original Post: One person has been arrested and a brick fence/planter box destroyed following a two-car collision near the intersection of West Henderson and Union streets in Eureka this afternoon.
The driver of the van pictured above, who is 74 years old, suffered minor injuries in the crash, according to Chris Jelinek of Humboldt Bay Fire. The driver of the white truck below was arrested, Jelinek says, though it is not yet clear on what grounds. Police officers on the scene declined to comment about why the driver was taken into custody, instead referring questions to the department’s public relations officer, who does not work Mondays.
Jelinek said the homeowner told him that this marks “probably the sixth time” that someone has crashed through his brickwork in the 20 years he has lived at the location.
Traffic on West Henderson was diverted onto side streets briefly while tow trucks and emergency personnel cleared the scene.
We will update when we know more.
