A garage fire broke out around 2:30 p.m. this afternoon near the intersection of Harris and R streets in Eureka.
Humboldt Bay Fire Battalion Chief Bill Reynolds told the Outpost on scene that when fire crews arrived, they encountered heavy gray smoke pushing out of a single-story detached garage.
“Crews initiated fire attack right away and we were able to get the fire under control within about 10 minutes,” Reynolds said.
The fire did not spread to the vacant residence and no one was injured.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
