UPDATE, 2:30 p.m.: Humboldt Bay Fire Battalion Chief Chris Jelinek tells the Outpost that the fire had a high potential of spreading, but nearby firefighters at the scene of the Broadway accident were able to respond quickly and extinguish the blaze.

“It was a small fire with significant potential,” Jelinek said. “We sent crews inside and did a search. There was very little smoke and the problem was mostly on the exterior.”

Fire officials said the fire is believed to have started on the roof of the adjacent motel and spread to the wall of the AA Bar.

The fire is still under investigation but firefighters were unable to locate the source of the flame.
