The double-murder trial of Jason Anthony Warren began this morning with Judge Timothy Cissna reviewing the language of a juror hardship questionnaire with Warren’s defense attorney, Glenn Brown with the county’s Alternate Counsel office, and prosecutor Paul Sequeira, an assistant district attorney from Mendocino County brought in for this case by DA Maggie Fleming.

Warren himself wore a suit for the first time during the proceedings. He sat quietly next to Brown, his hair pulled back in a ponytail split into two tight braids. Warrens stands accused of the 2012 murder of Hoopa woman Dorothy Ulrich, plus another murder charge stemming from running down three women jogging on Old Arcata Road. HSU geography instructor Suzanne Seemann was killed while fellow joggers Jessica Hunt and Terri Vroman-Little were seriously injured.

Judge Cissna today went over the language of a questionaire that will be presented to prospective jurors. One question will mention the special circumstances in the case, including allegations of lying in wait and intentional infliction of torture. Jury candidates will also be asked if they’ve heard anything about the case in the media and how they feel about serving on a jury in a double-murder case.

The trial is scheduled to run Mondays through Thursdays until no later than Dec. 11.
