Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office release: 

On Monday 8-08-2016, the Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Curry County Sheriff’s Office, Pelican Bay State Prison CERT, United States Forest Service, National Park Service, Oregon State Patrol, California Department of Fish & Wildlife and the Yurok Tribal Police conducted a marijuana eradication operation at two public land grow sites on Forest Service land. These two grow sites were located within a mile of each other, straddling the California/Oregon border, near the Diamond Creek Drainage and the intersection of the Wimer Road and County Road 315.

11,992 growing marijuana plants ranging in size from 3 feet to 6 feet tall, all in the budding stage were removed. Rodenticides, insecticides and environmental damage were located at the sites. This included the thinning and removal of trees and brush, water diversion and an extensive amount of litter.

The street value for the marijuana seized and eradicated is approximately 52.5 million dollars.

This operation is still under investigation by the Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office to identify and locate the persons responsible.
