An Arcata Fire District engine is on its way to Monterey County to help battle the nearly 70,000-acre Soberanes Fire burning north of Big Sur.

The crew will team up with the Humboldt County Local Government Strike Team that was dispatched to the fire three weeks ago.

Calfire reports that the blaze, casued by an illegal campfire, has claimed one life and destroyed 57 homes since igniting on July, 22.

The fire is currently 50 percent contained.
