City of Eureka press release: 

By request of the Mayor and order of the City Manager, all flags at City facilities will be flown at half-staff in honor of Eureka Police Volunteer Gary Swanson. Gary served honorably as a member of the Eureka Volunteer Patrol (EVP) for over 17 years (1998-2015). During this time, he volunteered over 6,200 hours in selfless service to the Eureka Police Department and his community. Gary always had a smile on his face, a warm greeting, and a bowl of candy to share with others. He will be missed. Information about the funeral services for Gary will be forthcoming.

All City flags will fly at half-staff on Thursday, February 11, 2016.
