Doris “Dori” Lynn Langdon
-1953-2016-

Doris “Dori” Lynn Langdon, 61, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday February 11, 2016. She left us doing what she loved to do best, helping others in need.

Dori was born to Delos and Eileen Rapp in Glendale, Los Angeles on May 25, 1953. Dori attended and graduated high school in Nevada City, CA.  She completed Beauty College in Marysville. After moving to Humboldt County in the early 1980s she went on to further her education by completing classes in typing, accounting, finance, and medical occupations. Her compassion and endeavour to help the homeless spread warmth to many. One of her favorite things to do that always brought a smile to her face was to volunteer at St. Vincent’s dining hall facility. Nothing made her more happy than making people happy.

She had many careers, goals and jobs, all of which she excelled in. She was a file clerk and medical record clerk at several of the local hospitals. A caregiver for the elderly, seamstress, mechanic, gardener, babysitter, a friend to many and so much more. She had more talents and hobbies than one can count.  Doris owned and maintained her own lawn care service for some 10 plus years. A true multi-tasker. She had a passion for people, gardening, and loved to be outdoors.

Humboldt County was truly her home. Always aware of her surroundings she would point out little plants that started blooming, a hummingbird, or an owl hooting. Doris loved hiking in sequoia park and Arcata redwood park, walking on beaches collecting rocks, riding  bikes, and yes, riding scooters.  She was always there when anybody needed her whether it was for a ride or a shoulder to cry on.  A devoted mother and a loving grandmother and a friend.

Her greatest joy in life was her grandsons. She truly loved the shit out of them. At age 62 she played hide and seek in the dark like no other grandma. She loved to grab Nerf guns and go after her grandkids. She strived and succeeded in anything she did. She will be sorely missed.

Dori is survived by her son Robert Langdon, her grandsons Forrest and Gavyn Hagler-Langdon, her sister Nancy, Mary Lou, her brother Ken, Michael Langdon and many nieces and nephews. She had many friends and adopted families throughout.

A wonderful woman was lost due to heart failure.  If you would like to share laughter or stories or even knew Dori for a brief moment, please come one and all to a casual little get together at the bottom level of the Wharfinger Building on Feb. 27, 2016, at around 3 p.m. We would like to hear them.  Free food and love to all.
