Welcome back, those who were blessed with an MLK Day off. If you’re returning to productivity Tuesday, do note the latest available batch of road closure updates from the Humboldt County Department of Public Works.
- The Wildcat is too wild! Mattole Road’s slide woes continue about a mile west of the intersection with Ocean Avenue in Ferndale. Alternate route to Petrolia or Honeydew is Monument Road in Rio Dell to Bear River Ridge to Mattole Road or Bull Creek to Mattole Road. The county estimates an afternoon Jan. 20 opening.
- Redwood Drive is all clear between Redway and Garberville but is closed north of Redway due to a failed culvert near Willow Lane.
- West Coast Road is flooded.
- Stagecoach Road is closed.
- Mad River Road is closed.
- Fischer Road is closed.
- McCann Ferry is still not running.
Just outside Humboldt’s borders, Caltrans reports the previously slide-impaired Highway 299 has been temporarily reopened to one-way controlled traffic in its problem area in Trinity County near Big Bar. The thing to open about this soft opening is that it’s only guaranteed during daylight hours. 299 will remain open at night only so long as the sneaky slide stays put.
Another brief just-outisde-of-Humboldt update: Expect continued brief delays on Highway 101 just south of Crescent City due to road damage, says Caltrans. One-way traffic control for the next couple days or so.
Also, on Highway 1 in Mendocino County near Rockport, another slide has caused Caltrans to institute one-way traffic control. Count on 5-10 minute delays.
