Leva Alice Tirawi succumbed to her ongoing battle with health issues on July 5th, 2016.
As much as she will be missed, it gives her family and friends peace to know she is now in a better place free from the pain she suffered daily.
Leva was a loving person who would do anything for anyone. Her immediate and extended family meant everything to her, so much so that she memorialized those loved ones who passed in a tattoo that read “sweet memories.”
Born Leva Alice Moore in Summersville, West Virginia, Leva came to California when she was just 5 years old. She graduated from Arcata High School in 1976 and went on to work varied jobs, even driving taxi at one point. She dedicated her life to being a homemaker and taking care of her children. Never one to shy away from hard work she took whatever jobs necessary to provide the best life possible for her children. The job she was most proud of was being a mom. She instilled strength and independence in her children and never let her status as a single mother define her. She enjoyed camping, gardening, writing stories and poems, and had recently completed a book which she was very proud of.
She is survived by her daughter Thea Moore, son Nick Rabah, her step father Lee Winsor, her granddaughters Taresah Ferguson, Ryan Corrigan and Athina Rieke. Her Aunt Vera(Jimmy) Shumard, her uncle Danny(Anna) Holbrooks, her nephews Josh and Chris Keyes and Casey Pfingston, her step siblings Lee Allen and Diana Winsor and numerous cousins and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her partner Lynn Conaway, mother Peggy Winsor, her father Jim Moore, her sister Frances Keyes, grandparents Opal Thompson and Dock Bartley, uncles Jr Holbrooks, Garrett Moore, Danny Bartley and Reid Rippeon, aunts Scarlet Rippeon, Jenny Rose Bartley and Val Holbrooks, and her cousins Mike Bartley, Tammy and Liz Rippeon and Danielle Rippeon Nemetz.
We would like to invite family and friends to a memorial celebration of Leva’s life, planned for Sunday, Aug. 7 at 2 p.m. at the Best Western Plus, Bayshore Inn conference room, located at 3500 Broadway, Eureka. We would also like to thank friends and family for all their kind words and gestures in this trying time. A special thank you to Natalia at Social Services for being so kind and supportive.
