Fifty people were shot dead at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida early this morning. At least as many were injured, some critically. National news outlets are calling it the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history. It comes in the middle of Pride Month, the annual LGBT celebration that marks the anniversary of the Stonewall riots.
The suspect in the killing — Omar Mateen, an American citizen — was shot dead by police at the site, after a two-hour standoff. Investigators are now looking at whether the attack was connected to, or inspired by, radical Islamic terrorism.
