Mary Joyce Colegrove Traversie was born a Hoopa Tribal Member to Eugene and Charlotte Colegrove in Hoopa on Feb. 4, 1940. Marge grew up in Hoopa and attended school both on and off the reservation. In her twenties Marge studied to become a nurse’s aide, providing care for both children & elders. It was in the bay that she met and married her husband Terry with whom she would spend the next several years traveling the greater western states. Marge loved to travel and her skills and experiences were diverse.

Over time Marge made her way back to Hoopa, where she most notably contributed 28 years of service to the Tribe. Prior to that she worked as a substance abuse counselor and a bingo clerk. Marge worked hard and took pride in being a pillar of strength and stability for her family. Marge loved to cook and her kitchen was always open to anyone who came through her door. She was an expert pie maker, and swore by her 1-2-3-piecrust recipe. When Marge wasn’t cooking and enjoying the company of her grandchildren, she hit the road in search of the best rummage sales, card games, and dancehalls from Orleans to Klamath.

Marge came from humble beginnings and lived a rich life filled with love and laughter. On June 15, 2016, Marge made her final trip home at the age of 76 years old.
