Neal Latts.

From the Humboldt Bay Municipal Water District:

At a special Board meeting today, the Humboldt Bay Municipal Water District Board of Directors unanimously selected Eureka resident and attorney Neal Latt to replace Kaitlin Sopoci-Belknap to represent Division 1 in the District. This Division includes northwestern Eureka and the Samoa Peninsula. Mr. Latt will complete the remainder of Ms. Sopoci-Belknap’s term through December 8, 2016. The position will be on the ballot for election in November of this year.

The position became vacant upon Ms. Sopoci-Belknap’s resignation on March 9, due to her relocation to Sacramento. Ms. Sopoci-Belknap had served on the HBMWD Board of Directors since first being elected in 2004, and subsequently again in 2008 and 2012.

Three candidates had submitted resumes and cover letters for the position prior to the February 5 deadline requested by the HBMWD Directors.

“We were in the enviable position of having a difficult choice to make, due to the strong qualifications of all of the candidates,” said Barbara Hecathorn, President of the HBMWD Board of Directors. “However, the Board was unanimous in their opinion that Mr. Latt will complement the rest of the Board and will represent well the constituents in Division 1.”

Mr. Latt will be sworn in at the next regular meeting of the HBMWD Board of Directors, scheduled for April 14, 2016.
