The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a burglary at R&B Auto in Blue Lake after a two suspects were caught on security camera breaking into the business early thursday morning.

The burglars, believed to be a man and a woman, are seen on camera around 2 a.m. smashing out the business’s front window, and swiping three sets of keys to different Toyota trucks for sale on the property.

Business owners Ray Raygoza and Beckie Thorton told the Outpost that the two might have entered the business and taken more if their guard dog hadn’t scared them off.

“She was reaching through trying to unlock the door when she knocked the keys down,” Thorton said. “She noticed the keys, scooped them up and they took off.”

The couple notified authorities immediately after the incident, but the burglars are still at large. Based on security footage, a third culprit is suspected of driving the getaway vehicle.

“We heard a crash, we live directly behind the office, and heard the dog barking,” Thorton said. “We’re a small dealership here in Blue Lake and this is a blatant act so we’re trying to get the word out to see if people recognize them.”

Thorton and her husband have since made adjustments to the trucks to prevent the burglars from finishing the job.

“They are behind a fence with a locked gate,” Thorton said. “And because we can not get into them or unlock them either, we have taken the tires off of them.”

This is the first attempted break in the couple has experienced since they opened shop 16 years ago.
