On Friday, May 06, 2016, a 2005 Land Rover was making a parking maneuver on Plunkett Road, east of Jacoby Creek Road, when it drove over a passenger who suddenly exited in the vehicle while it was in motion.
At approximately 2:00 a.m., CHP officers responded to a traffic collision on Plunkett Road, east of Jacoby Creek Road. A 2005 Land Rover, driven by, Timothy Bolton, age 45, of Arcata, was pulling into a driveway on Plunkett Road when one of his passengers, Jennifer Mallett, age 35, of Arcata, suddenly exited the Land Rover and was subsequently run over. As a result of this collision, Mallet sustained major injuries including a broken leg, fractured pelvis and abrasions. Mallet was transported by ground ambulance to Mad River Hospital. Alcohol is suspected to have been a factor in this collision and the driver, Bolton, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. The California Highway Patrol Humboldt Area is investigating this traffic collision.
The California Highway Patrol would like to take this unfortunate opportunity to remind motorist that a drunk driving arrest means a major hit in the pocketbook. The fine for first-offense DUI along with associated costs can run to $15,000 or more.
