Veterans Day is when America honors those who served in the armed forces. However, the experience of going to war has left many veterans spending the rest of their lives advocating for peace.

In this video report we speak with local Vietnam veteran Robert Hepburn, who is the gardener at Veterans Memorial Park in Arcata. He shares his painful personal account of the war, how he ended up homeless in Los Angeles, his battle with post traumatic stress disorder and why he is a veteran for peace.

“It’s scarred me, but I think it has made me strong in doing everything I can to create peace in this world,” said Hepburn. “Because I think war is madness and it’s also the most stupid thing human beings can do.”
