An explosion in a home on the 100 block of First Avenue in Rio Dell has sent at least three people to the hospital, some with severe injuries.

Firefighters were summoned to the scene at about 6:50 p.m., after the explosion shook the neighborhood, as chronicled by “Just-In” of the Outpost’s “Scanner Traffic Indicates” page. One commenter on the Outpost’s Facebook page says that the explosion shook her whole apartment, several blocks away.

Numerous fire agencies and ambulances responded. Three people in total were taken to the hospital in ambulances, according to scanner traffic, at least two of them with very severe burns.

One witness tells the Outpost that the home has been completely destroyed.
