Humboldt Bay Fire press release:
On October 1, 2016 at approximately 0332 AM Humboldt Bay Fire responded to a residential structure fire across from 6085 Beechwood Drive. Initial reports stated explosions were heard and possibly ammunition detonating. Law enforcement units also responded due to the possibility of a hash oil lab explosion.
The first arriving units found a single-story house fully involved with fire and a power line burned through and dropped in front of the residence. No other houses were involved but both neighbors were threatened. Crews performed an exterior attack to control the fire and prevent it from spreading to the adjacent houses. It was unknown if the occupant was home. The fire was controlled within 1 hour and is currently under investigation. The cause and origin are unknown.
Three engines, one squad and two chief officers responded to the fire. Arcata Fire District provided coverage of Humboldt Bay Fire jurisdiction with an engine and Battalion Chief. Pacific Gas and Electric responded to secure the dropped power line.
The structure was 90% destroyed and confined to the fire building. No indications of a hash oil lab were located and no firefighter injuries were reported.
