Macktown planewatchers are getting an eyeful today!

First up, you got this 737 operated by a Canadian charter company that landed at ACV a little over an hour ago. What’s that doing there?

Well, Emily Jacobs — the county’s airport program coordinator — tells us that the plane just ferried the Simon Fraser U. football team down from Vancouver International, so’s they can lose to Humboldt State tomorrow. Tomorrow evening at 6 p.m. at Humboldt State — it’s the Jacks versus the Clan! No, really — Simon Fraser calls its football team “The Clan.”

Then there was this:

What the hell is that?

Ace McKinleyville shutterbug and LoCO Hall-of-Famer “Stoney Times” wasn’t the only person to let us know about this bird, but of course he was quickest with the shot. What the hell is it? What country is invading us now?

Jacobs tells us that this is a Dornier Alpha Jet owned and operated by NASA. The plane is based in the Bay Area — it had been flown up to Washington for servicing, she said, and now it’s headed back. Stopped over for some fuel.

Here’s some photos of it on the ground. Should be taking off again anytime now:
