UPDATE, 4:10 p.m.: The Outpost spoke with EPD Sgt. Shawn Sapoaga who told us that today’s excitement stemmed from an area resident’s report that there was what looked to be a pipe bomb. When EPD officers arrived they found a cylindrical object that looked to be wrapped in electrical tape and capped with a golf ball.

Better safe than sorry, EPD called in HCSO’s EOD team, closed the street and told neighbors to shelter in place. Ultimately HCSO detonated the device, although Bomb-Bot sat the sidelines for this one. (Poor Bomb-Bot.)

No one was injured. The streets are now open.

Original Post: The Eureka Police Department has blocked off a section of F Street between Hodgson Street and Manzanita Avenue after a suspicious object was located in the area.

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office was called in to detonate the device and Bomb-Bot was dispatched to the area.

The object was detonated around 3:40 p.m. However, Bomb-Bot remained inside its trailer.

The streets are still closed off at the moment. We will update this post when we know more.
