Riley Gast, a 22-year-old Eureka native and a soldier stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas, was found dead in the desert near his base last week after he went missing for a few days.
The local authorities in Texas aren’t saying much about the case, but they do say that foul play is not suspected.
Everyone who knew Gast is invited to a memorial gathering at the Wharfinger Building this weekend. His family sends along the following note:
We will be having a celebration of life for Riley Gast on Sunday, April 9 at the Wharfinger Building in Eureka. It will be from 11-3 p.m. Lunch will be provided. Please wear San Francisco Giants apparel if you can. We look forward to celebrating Riley and sharing our fun memories.
