PREVIOUSLY: Police Respond to Reports of Armed Men Running Through Arcata Neighborhood

On Friday April 7, 2017 at 9:45 am, the Arcata Police Department responded to a possible armed robbery in progress at the Craftsman’s Mall, located at 2905 St Louis Road in Arcata. Witnesses reported an altercation in the parking lot involving several male adults that were associated with two vehicles last seen fleeing northbound on St. Louis Rd.  Two males were observed running westbound through the Craftsman’s Mall, wearing bandanas over their faces, and one was armed with what witnesses described as a “Mac 10” assault weapon. 

Arcata Police and Humboldt State University Police Officers established a perimeter and used an APD K9 team to search the property.  Witnesses alerted officers that two of the suspects were last seen hiding in a goat pen on the west side of the property. Two suspects were located hiding just beyond the property in the back yard of a residence in the 2500 block of Maple Lane.

A Master Piece Arms Mac 10 pistol was located discarded in the wooded area between the Craftsman’s Mall and the residence on Maple Lane.

23-year-old Florida resident, Malcom Jamel Carson, was booked at the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on the following charges:

  • PC 602.5(b)-Aggravated Trespass.
  • PC 30605(a)-Possession of an Assault Weapon.

22-year-old Florida resident Rohan Anthony Ludford was booked at the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on the following charge:

  • PC 602.5(b)-Aggravated Trespass.

Two additional subjects were detained on scene, and later released without charges.
