Alexander Lame Bear was born July 21, 1957 and passed away on February 13, 2017 at the age of 57. He is survived by his children William Lame Bear, Alec Lamebear, Ashley and Kie Schmidt, Marty and Cheriku Lame Bear, Andrew and Christina Lame Bear, Sascheen, Key-shan, JR and James Bowen, and twenty-three grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Rose, Mary, Jamie and many nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents Delma Lame Bear, Fred Marceau and brother Lawrence Marceau.

Alec loved to travel. He was well known for being a traveling man, and in his long journeys he made many friends all across the country. He would often travel to Montana, where he was born and raised. He was a proud member of the Blackfeet Tribe.

He moved to the Humboldt area at the age of twenty and soon after started a family in Hoopa. Later in life Alec moved to Eureka, where he made many friends. He was known for his great sense of humor and his stubbornness. He was not shy and not afraid to call it how he saw it.

Alec was a talented artist. He loved to work with his hands and often worked on many projects at the same time. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, eeling and working in the garden. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.

The wake will be held tonight — Wednesday, Feb. 15 — at the Wautec Shaker Church. Services will be held Thursday, Feb. 16, at 12 p.m. at the same place. The reception will be held at the Yurok Tribal Office in Weitchepec immediately after the services. All are welcome.
