Cindy Louise Goldsby moved into eternal life with Christ Jesus on July 3, 2017 at the age of 57. Born of Louis and Lois (Seeger) Pietrok in Fortuna, California, Cindy made her home in Ferndale, California. She attended Ferndale Elementary and Ferndale High Schools, graduating in 1978.

On November 24, 1979, she married her husband of 37 years, Bret. Together, they had three children: Drew, Phillip, and Kenton. There was nothing in Cindy’s life that brought her more joy than seeing her children succeed. Cindy took pride in each of her children’s educations, encouraging them to achieve success in everything, especially college.

Inspiring children was Cindy’s favorite thing. For a time, she worked for Head Start throughout Humboldt County. Later, she organized an after-school program for grade-school students in Ferndale. Hosted at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Kids Klub brought children into her life that she regarded as her own and who, in turn, regard her as a mother.

Inheriting a love of gardening and flowers from her own mother and father, Cindy was a treasure trove of information, especially with flowers. She loved Shasta daisies — her favorite flower — and fuchsias that brought hummingbirds to her yard, reminding her of her own mother.

As her gift to the world, Cindy gave her friends and family her cooking. Though she was known to be frustrated when a pie crust wouldn’t roll out correctly, no one ever complained eating one of her delectable baked goods. Her cookies, cakes, and especially her pies will be missed by everyone who has been graced by them.

Cindy is preceded in death by Lois, her mother. She is survived by Louis, her father; Donnis Smith, her mother-in-law; Bret, her husband; Drew (Sonia Zapien), Phillip (Megan), and Kenton, her children; and Mike, Julie, Sue, Peter, and Ron, her siblings. She is also survived by her most cherished gifts, her grandchildren, Naomi and Weston. Cindy was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt. She will be missed dearly by those who love her.

Through the past weeks, Cindy was cared for by many individuals, particularly those at the California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, Fortuna Wellness and Rehabilitation Center,  and Hospice of Humboldt, who were touched by the love and support surrounding her at all times.

Cindy’s memorial service will take place at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church on Saturday, July 22nd at 10am, with refreshments following. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice of Humboldt.
