Fred was born David Gordon Ziegler in Oakland on Aug. 18, 1955. He was adopted by his loving parents, John Frederick Mangels Jr. and Jeanne Jacques Mangels. Fred passed away June 1, 2017 from brain cancer.

Fred served in the National Guard for 16 years, including in Saudi Arabia and in the Watts riot.

After returning home, he started Fred’s Yard Service.

Many know him from Fred’s Humboldt Blog.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Jeanne Mangels.

Fred is survived by his wife Connie (Cruz) Mangels, his sister Melissa K. Feldman, his brother John F. Mangels III (Anne), and his nieces Thea and Audrey. Also, Fred’s in-laws Jim and Colleen Cruz and their extended family.

Per Fred’s wishes, there will be no services.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Humboldt, 3327 Timber Fall Court, Eureka, CA, 95503.
