Leland Merle Anderson (Landy), 66, passed away March 8, 2017 in Eureka. He was born on December 16, 1950 to parents Leland Anderson I and Beverly Anderson. Landy had three siblings: Pam Mauney (Dennis), Jay Anderson (Deceased), & Joni Yorks. He is survived by his two children — Ryan Anderson (Sarah) & Torie Mather (Justin) — as well as his ex-wife Kim Salazar. Landy had five grandchildren: Zachary Anderson, Abigail Anderson, Juliana Anderson, Maxwell Mather and Emily Mather as well as nieces Shari Yorks and Chrissie Anderson and nephews Patrick Mauney and Jayce Anderson.

Landy graduated from Ferndale High School in 1969 and studied at Humboldt State University. Shortly after that, he went to work for Humboldt National Bank. From there he worked for Bank of Loleta, Shearson/American Express, Dean Witter and finally working for Anderson, Robinson, Starkey Insurance.

Anyone who knew Landy knew he loved fishing. His love for fishing started when he and his brother Jay shared many fun memories of fishing in Francis Creek. In between silly pranks of removing labels from canned food at friend’s homes and Landy’s first job of delivering newspapers before school, he and Jay would go fishing whenever they could. The loss of Jay was a scar that Landy carried with him for the rest of his days. Landy’s love of fishing never faded as he spent most of his free time fishing on or by the ocean and hanging out on the Madaket.

There are too many people to thank for their continued support, but two should be mentioned: Emil Ferrabend and Leroy Zerlang. The family is extremely thankful for all the help and support you’ve given Landy throughout the years. There will be a Celebration of Life held at the Fireman’s Hall in Ferndale on Sunday, April 2, 2017, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
