Eureka Burglary Suspect Arrested in Fortuna After Spike Strips Pop His Vehicle’s Tires
Eureka Police Department press release:
On 11-2-17 at approximately 5:38 PM, officers of the Eureka Police Department were dispatched to a
burglary in progress at a business at the 300 block of 4th street. The Reporting Party (RP) stated that a subject
broke the front window of the business with a brick, entered the closed business, and left with a box of items.
The RP provided a description of both the suspect and the vehicle the suspect fled in.
As officers responded, an officer observed the suspect vehicle traveling southbound on D street. Due to the
nature of the incident, the suspect vehicle was followed until additional units could arrive, prior to officers
attempting an enforcement stop on the vehicle. A stop was soon attempted on the vehicle at about the 2000
block of Broadway, however the vehicle failed to yield and continued southbound on Broadway at about 30
mph. A pursuit was initiated.
The suspect vehicle continued southbound on Broadway and exited the City of Eureka limits. Officers of the
California Highway Patrol, Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department and the Fortuna Police Department were
requested to assist. As the suspect vehicle reached the Palmer Blvd exit in Fortuna, spike strips were
deployed and successfully flattened the two front tires of the suspect vehicle. The suspect vehicle abruptly
took the Fortuna Main street exit, where it pulled to the shoulder and stopped.
The suspect was soon taken
into custody without further incident.
In plain view on the front seat of the suspect vehicle, officers located property belonging to the victim
business.
The suspect, identified as Tai Minh Ngo (44 years old), was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional
Facility on charges of burglary, evading, resisting arrest, and driving on a suspended license. He is being
held on $50,000 bail.
This is an open investigation and anyone with information concerning this incident is urged to contact
Officer Soltow at 707 441-4060.
