The arraignment has been postponed for a Rio Dell couple charged with murdering a man who was operating a cannabis-extraction lab in their garage when it exploded.
Today David Gerald Paul and Tamara Gayle Paul made their first court appearance since Rio Dell police arrested them Tuesday on warrants. Co-defendant Arron Michael Mohr was arrested Sept. 6 and also is charged with murder in the death of 21-year-old Xavier David Renner, who survived a few weeks before dying from his burns.
Mohr and the Pauls are being held on $1.5 million bail each.
Eureka attorney Larry Killoran made a special court appearance today for Tamara Paul. Killoran said he also was appearing on behalf of attorney Neal Sanders, who may be hired to represent David Paul.Their arraignment was put off until Monday to confirm they have counsel.
Mohr was arraigned last week and has a preliminary hearing set for Monday.
The Pauls were allegedly renting out their detached garage to Renner and Mohr, who were using butane to extract concentrated cannabis oil. Both were burned in the explosion and fire on Nov. 9. Renner died in a hospital on Dec. 14.
All three defendants are charged with murder, manufacturing a controlled substance, and manufacturing cannabis using a volatile solvent. The Pauls are also charged with child endangerment, operating a drug lab and possession of a controlled substance.
