From the California Highway Patrol:
On 4/26/18, at approximately 2056 hours, CHP officers were dispatched to a call of a pedestrian laying in the center divider area of US-101 N/B at the SR-200 interchange.
Upon arrival, officers found an unresponsive male laying in the center divider area next to the N/B #1 lane of US-101. Officers immediately began CPR, and medical personnel also arrived at the scene; however, the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. It appears that the pedestrian was in the roadway of N/B US-101 and was struck by an unknown N/B vehicle. The driver of the vehicle did not stop and fled the scene. The Humboldt County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene for the deceased pedestrian.
The pedestrian is pending positive identification and notification of next of kin. Assistance was provided at the scene by the Arcata Police Department and the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office. N/B traffic on US-101 was diverted onto Central Ave. while the scene was investigated.
