Longtime local radio and events DJ Pete Meyer, one of the more recognizable voices on the Humboldt airwaves for over three decades, died yesterday afternoon after experiencing a sudden medical issue, prompting an outpouring of love and respect across social media this morning. He was 68.

“It is with a heavy heart we share the news that friend, coworker, father, grandfather and legend Pete Meyer has passed,” read a Facebook remembrance from Big Red Country DJ Rollin Trehearne, a colleague of Meyer’s for years at Bicoastal Media. “A gentle soul who shared all of our lives.”

Meyer’s was the voice sprinkled between the pop music hits of the day on KFMI Power 96.3’s weekday “Meyer in the Morning” show. Always generous with his megaphone, over the years he invited countless local residents into his studio on Humboldt Hill to promote their events and causes.

Pete will be missed.
