The river!

Holy moly! Goodness gracious! Sweet Mama Janisse! Humboldt’s about to get some capital-W weather.

A great atmospheric river is set to wash over the land between Thursday and Saturday. The National Weather Service office on Woodley Island believes we’re going to get as much as five inches of rain. Rivers will rise.

A hazardous weather outlook is in effect! Look:

This hazardous weather outlook is for northwest California.

DAY ONE…This afternoon and tonight. No hazardous weather is expected.

DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN…Thursday through Tuesday. A late-season atmospheric river and a series of storm systems will bring moderate to heavy rain and gusty southerly winds to much of the region Thursday through Saturday. Small stream flooding is a possibility. Mainstem rivers are expected to see rapid rises, but flooding is not expected.

You can get more detail in the forecast discussion at this link. Hail and thunderstorms are not out of the question.

The show is scheduled to start fairly early in the morning. Batten down. Drive safe. Be prepared for chaos on the highway — slip-outs, slides and crashes — and for power outage, especially up in the hills. We’ll do our best to track things on this end.

Godspeed, Humboldt!
