From Humboldt Bay Fire:
On 08/18/18 at 10:12 pm. Humboldt Bay Fire responded to a reported Structure Fire at the 2000 block of G St. in Eureka.
Humboldt Bay Fire responded with 2 engines, 1 truck, 1 squad and 2 chief officers. The first Chief Officer arrived on scene and found a single story residential structure with heavy smoke visible and fire showing from the rear of the residence. There were also reports that the 3 occupants of the residence were unaccounted for and a 2nd alarm was requested which brought an additional 2 engines to the scene. 2 ambulances were also requested to the scene.
The first arriving company immediately searched the residence and the second arriving company made an interior attack of the fire. The 3 occupants of the residence were located within minutes outside the residence and had escaped the residence prior to the arrival HBF units. All three occupants denied any medical attention.
The fire was difficult to control due to the fire extending into the attic/loft area of the residence and the amount of personal belongings located throughout the entire residence. The fire was controlled in 2 hours and firefighters remained on scene for 4 ½ hours for overhaul operations and to completely extinguish the fire.
There were no civilian or firefighter injuries and the residence suffered significant fire and water damage estimated at $250,000.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
